The Sunnydale Herald

We have changed our tag for the Hulu Sequel that was not picked up, which was named New Sunnydale. Previously the tag was "Hulu Sequel" but now we are tagging it "Hulu Pilot". (If it had been picked up and named New Sunnydale, that would have become the new fandom tag.) Our other fandom tags include: btvs, ats, buffy comics, slayers: a buffyverse story - to name some but not all. See the full list on our tags page.

Reblogs of "hulu sequel" have been changed to "hulu pilot" for the Digest. We will be updating our tags page soon.

There have been a lot of posts about the Pilot not getting picked up. A double Herald covering Sunday and Monday is delayed, but will be released sometime Tuesday (US time). It will include a lot of posts about the pilot. These will be labeled so you can read or avoid them as you like.

We anticipate this surge of activity about the pilot to die down at some point. Perhaps it will lead to more new viewers watching the original show (or movie). Perhaps it will lead to more fan art, fan videos, and fan fiction as people channel their pilot hopes and dreams into creative fanworks. We will see, and continue to document it in the Herald Newsletter.

As always, if you are interested in joining the crew that puts out one of the longest running (since 2004) fandom newsletters, reach out. We can always use a backup editor or more tumblr rebloggers.

And a special thank you to departing former chief editor thenewbuzwuzz!! They joined the Herald as an editor in 2017, and took over the chief editor position (from Tuesday editor rahirah) in 2021. They need to take a break for real life fun and a new full time job. They've been especially helpful in streamlining the Herald process, like the Pinboard. Have a most excellent newslettering retirement thenewbuzwuzz!

This means we now have an editor for every day of the week, yay! We’re no longer in urgent need of new editors.

This means we are looking for someone to step in as Sunday editor or potentially take another day of the week. (Other good options right now are Monday or Wednesday.)

Being a Herald editor means making one newsletter post a week. After some training and a few test posts, it will generally take roughly 2-4 hours (once a week) depending on one's level of perfectionism. Most of the potential links come to us pre-gathered in one tidy Dreamwidth reading page. You'll also have help with turning the day's selection of links into a formatted list: you can either paste everything into our HTML template that already contains all the formatting tags, or use some alternative tools (including the fabled Pinboard!) that will do part of the pasting and sorting for you. We're happy to explain and show how everything works from the ground up. :)

If once a week sounds like a bit too much, we are also open to training a new floating backup editor, and a new tumblr-only volunteer. (Tumblr-only volunteers help by reblogging things on a particular day to the sunnydale-digest.)

Being an editor means being a part of a long tradition of supporting the Buffyverse fandom. The Sunnydale Herald is one of the longest running fandom newsletters, publishing on various sites since 2004! It would be awesome to hear from you, and you won't have to commit to anything until you're sure!
